 The SuperMoon on 11/12/16 4:38pm. This is 96% of full. The 100% full moon occurs on Monday morning 11/14/16, but the light conditions will not be better than tonight. The moon is closer to Earth this weekend than it has been since 1934.

The 96% waxing Gibbous moon is a good photo subject because there are still shadows from craters on the back left edge. The disadvantage of this time (and images going forward in time) is the loss of detail in the landscape. The "super moon illusion" loses some impact as the moon becomes disassociated from the context of the land below.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, Canon EF400mm f/4 DO IS II USM +1.4xIII. Lens focal length 560mm., 1/400s@f/11, ISO 800. This is moon rise over Deer Mountain in RMNP.

Tripod mount with IS "on". Spot metering on the moon. Shutter release cable. Photopills app used to preplan location.
