 This is my first entry to DP Challenge. I don't have a tripod yet, and I still have a lot to learn. A coworker told me the best way to learn is to enter challenges on this website. So, here I am. I shot this photo because I was guessing that everyone would do landscapes or holidays, I wanted to try something a little different. I love shoes, so I thought a calendar displaying shoes for each season or month would be fun.

Challenge link: quite weak really - apart from the leaves, there is no clear link to November from the boots (or any calendar month), which would account for a vast majority of any low votes.

Image critique: the leaves are a little staged, looking more like a cluster than scattered and obviously the boots are placed there. It's well composed otherwise and there's plenty of detail and crisp focus. If anything it lacks real interest to carry it into the realms off 'specialness'. Improvements could have been:
> shooting form an unusual angle
> making it gritty, black and white
> cropping closer to show the contrast of textures without so much context

Out-of-challenge appeal: not much, given that the image has no 'wow' factor or clear meaning.

Strange composition but I like it very much. I would have covered the whole frame with leaves, there is some missing at the top of the frame.

Like I said--I think this is very creative and it is and focused beautifully. Plus the lighting it good. Once you get the tools down, you'll be a star.
