It was a serendipitous morning. I was looking for moose, but found an elk harem at Sprague Lake, RMNP, instead. The rut has begun. Sprague Lake was an exciting visit for many tourists today. I can't think of a more beautiful spot for wildlife sightings, landscape scenes and lake reflections. Canon EOS 5Dmkiii, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, 1/500s@f/8.0, ISO 400, lens focal length 70mm. 8/28/16 8:55am.

One person commented about cloning out the people. That reflects a misunderstanding of who owns the national parks. Must be from a different country.

This image was captured on 08-28-16, after the speed challenge was announced. I hope DPC doesn't open up submissions to the "mining of archives" in the future. The motivation to pick up the camera and engage in fresh photography is an important element to the significance of this photography contest.

The interface of the people and the wildlife/scenery is an essential part of the national park system. It would have been foolish and unethical and a misrepresentation to clone out the people and cars. The people are an important part of the story. |

Somebody should call the Sierra Club, alert them to all the wonderful photos in this challenge. It's truly amazing. What a beautiful planet we have to live on. Thanks for posting this shot |

what a great shot. It looks like you had to battle very harsh light but it is still a good capture! |

nice buck right in the middle of the photo. Good use of the rule of thirds. The people and cars are distracting |

Nice picture. You could have cloned out the cars and the people, they are really disturbing in this picture. Some PP to make it pop. A 7 from me |
