I like the extremes of tones you've captrued here...it gives the picture a very nice effect. |

This image is overexposed. You can see that from all of the white spots on the dog. jgillard5 |

A well cropped vertical format. Glad you attempted the casual candid shot rather than the planned studio setup. Informality has loads of character. The leash, chain, curled position, snow bits and lonesome look in the pooch's face bring out the message in your photo. The reflection is a nice touch. The lighting is unavoidably harsh in these circumstances. Which means a sacrifice in shadow or highlight detail. If it was my personal choice I would crop or get in closer and just include the chain and dog head. Even underexpose the shadows so you get a photo of just the chain, the brown jowl area and the eye highlght. Sort of a prisoner photo. Another idea would be to use fill flash to lighten the shadows so that the contrast between the shadows and highlights would be less. I would also give a little more space between the reflecting glass pane and the dog's head by moving slightly to the right. If you have B&W capabilities that would be another attractive alternative as the message is more about the dog's posture and expression than the colour of the leash, tags or doorstep. These are just opinions and possibilities you might want to consider. Not necessarily better just different. Overall this is a well expressed image with strong emotive content. Keep up the street photography. It is very challenging but worth it as you have demonstrated |

I would've put a little more focus (so to speak) on the shadow of the dog in the window. - Inspzil |

This "friend" looks very distressed..what with the short lease and horrible collar.
If that was your purpose for this picture you succeeded very well |

Poor guy has to wear TWO collars! He looks so sad and dejected! I hope you gave him a good petting. |

This is a nice composition, says to me "I'm waiting for my master", the reflection in the door glass is a nice touch. In my opinion the pinch colar is a training device and looses its value as such if left on all the time as a control device, a point off. |

The direct sunlight ruined the picture. Buy a "polarizing" filter for your camera if possible and use it when you see sharp sunlight bouncing off of your subject, etc. The filter will "dim" the sharp glare. |

I like the image of this photo. But the lighting seems to be a little bright because parts of the photo are hard to make out. Good job. |

Don't think I will approach this porch. I have to use one of the collars also and I know what they're for. Beautiful dog, but not sure how friendly. The sun did you in on the photo though. Washing out the stomach area and putting the head in the dark. T hate that for you. |

light is a little too blown out...background is a little dark. can't see much detail in the face. looks like a cute pup, though! |

My first thought is "this must be one mean dog, the way he's chained up".
You've captured him nicely. His reflection in that back porch window shows another side to him. The direct sunlight warming him up "lights" him up nicely for this photograph and at the same time it seems to leave his face in the shadows "deep in thought"
Upon looking at this photograph, I can't help but think how cruel it is that this dog can't lay down, but is chained up in such a way that he has to sit up all day long in such a cramped position! |

contrast (bottom/top) and light levels are a little off-putting and could it have been a little sharper? otherwise, i like: the reflection (the one of the dog on the glass), the colour of the leash, and the look of "reflection" on the dog's face. |
