A young American Alligator (Alligator Mississippiensis) watches me from the safety of the grass growing in the water at Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, Texas, USA.

I woke up at 3am to head out to Anahuac NWR and when I checked my email I saw the speed challenge. Was all happy I was actually going to a place that I would use the photos for this challenge, was a bit disappointed that it could be any shot. I thought about using one of my previous photographs from here (it's the only national place I have taken any photographs from in a long time), but decided to only use what I took that day. Here is to hoping I made the right choice.

rodfulk Thanks, I was really happy with how this turned out. One of the few times something comes out just like I saw it in my head.

Hello from the critique club

An interesting image that meets the challenge well.

Why did I know this was yours as soon as I saw it Ronnie! Until I read your notes I thought it was another of your excellent frog images. For me this works really well I love the dominant grasses that effectively hide the Ă¢€˜gator leaving you to search for him, the blurred grasses add to the air of mystery. Thank you for your notes and your link to the write up I can feel the excitement of the situation myself, another excellent result, keep at Ronnie.

Somebody should call the Sierra Club , alert them to all the wonderful photos in this challenge. It's truly amazing. What a beautiful planet we have to live on. Thanks for posting this shot.
