Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Location: Playa del Rey, CA
Date: Nov 5, 2004

Poor man's macro lens (Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 with extension tube). Slight brightness/contrast adjustment, resized, sharpened and bordered using The Gimp. The blue hue comes from a deliberately off white-balance setting - window lighting only.

So is that a mirror in the background? If not you got your game set up wrong... Either way good shot. I really like the lighting.

I like how the front pieces are glowing blue, as if they are the 'good guys'.

I've begun to wonder if the twin chess photogs are actually playing a real game through this forum with each of their challenges... ah well. Tho some may be tired of the subject, I am enjoying the extended study of Opaque vs Transparent and their varied interpretations.

Oooh, I love the lighting of these pieces. Also the dark opposing pieces look cool :) Good use of depth of field.

I think this is close to being outside the 'extreme close up' category and into the 'close up' category. When thinking extreme, I tend to think only one object, but this is only my one personal opinion. That being said...I love the shot. Love the color, love the background. Focus and clarity are really great, and lighting is what makes this photo for me. Overall a job well done. ~Heather~
