 Composition intended to evoke isolation, a regretful yearning for the warm out-there versus the gloomy still and cold in-here.

Some flights to Bangkok are severely underfilled; here the model and I had the entire rear 25 rows of seats of a large Airbus to ourselves. I took the liberty of closing all the shades behind except hers to get this lighting setup, and shot at 85mm from a few rows in front to get the most out of the compressed perspective and contrast. Shot with live view to get precise focus on the eyes with the f/1.5, which unfortunately led to a few hot pixels.

Editing: adjusting curves to primarily bring out the blues in the shadows and lower them in the highlights, cloning out hot pixels, dodging and burning, then a monochrome conversion using a light orange filter simulated with channel mixer to bring out the contrast of the light against the seats again, then a duotone conversion with manually drawn curves using Pantone Cool Gray 11C for the shadows and midtones and Warm Gray 1UP for the highlights. Resize and selective sharpen.

An interesting image that meets the challenge very well.

Congratulations on your HM placing, very well deserved. This is a lovely image, very well executed and set up, the moody atmosphere is enhanced by the empty dark space around her. The lighting from the window picks out her eyes very attractively and your accurate focus enhances that too. I like the way the lighting is picking out her necklace. Personally I would love to see the rest of her face but alternatively you could say that adds to the mystery of the shot. A great entry Eugene, well done.
