CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE

COMPOSITION
The composition of this is formal in that the three subjects form a solid triangle, which adds a sense of stability to the shot. However, it is also casual, due to the poses, which makes it appear more natural. It is cropped almost perfectly (maybe a bit too close on teh right).
TECHNIQUE
Awesome focus. The entire thing is clear and crisp, which works well, I think with a shot like this. I also like the way it is lit, though the woman's hands are a bit bright/overexposed/blown out. The background is definitely perfect for this shot. It has texture to add interest, but is not so busy to detract from the overall image. The coloring is wonderful.
OVERALL EFFECT
This shot is more than just a portrait, I think, it tells a story. The mother's (I assume that is her role, or older sister perhaps) arms are draped across the younger boys in a protective way, but knowing boys, she could just as easily be holding them in place! The look on her face is a smug pride in her boys, she knows they're cool, and their look says, "we're loved, and we're cool, now, can we go play or something?" For some reason, I really like the older boy having a hood on. That, for me probably adds to the effectiveness of this shot. He looks so natural and relaxed like that.
A wonderful shot, and I am not sure why you didn't score higher. Definitely one to get printed and hang!

| What an intense look on the little ones face. I like that they all look rather serios and not all smiley fface. I also like the sepia, good choice for this photo. |

| This is an example where the photographer does so well that the "cliche" is no longer recognizable. This is no "cliche", it has been transformed beyond that and the photographer should be rewarded with a very high score. |

| Great portrait of your family. They each seem to be telling their own story and they each create their own mood to the photograph. The colors of the clothing also create the mood for the photograph. The mother sure is protective of her children, loving too. Photos is very sharp and continually in focus. Congratulations on a well taken portrait. |

| This is a nicely different family portrait!! Not your typical family all shined, polished, and in their Sunday best -- which makes this a better than average photo. I like the sepia!! |

| The pattern on the womens dress is nice. The wrinkles in the clothes givves it nice texture. |

| i really like this family portrait. The sepia like tone is perfect as well as the composition (i guess i mean more pose) and expressions are right on. the kid on the left looks a lot like the mother, both have a mona lisa like smile and the kid on the right is soooo mysterious! |

| From the sweatshirt hood and facial expressions, I'm taking this is a "pun". If not forgive me. I love the sepia tone. Really and truly this is a really fantastic photo that's why I'm wondering why you were playing at it. Great focus, great portrait. Super portrait background. Am I missing something? By the way, congratulatons on the one on the way. When it gets here take a real one as well as this one. |

| nice lighting, focus, and tone. i'm tempted to say that it's not cliché enough tho (whatever that says)... there's so much more this photo says to me and not one of them would be a cliché. |
