This is a vase of very old dried up roses that have been in my bathroom since .. forever. They're litterally covered in dust, but since no one dared to touch it to get it off, it just stayed there, after which point we eventually just forgot about them.

I finally got myself a decent black cloth to use as a background, which i did in this shot. Took about 60 pics to get the right "feel".

Alot of grain removal in neatimage and an unsharp mask and a slight change in levels (very minimal though, i was very pleased at what my camera shot)

I like the background lighting here very much. The way it grades in from the top left of the image is very nice.

The subject is also well lit, and the composition work well enough, though I can't say I find the roses very visually appealing. They appear far to dusty for my tastes, and as a rule I don't care much for dried flowers. But thats just me.

Due to the age of your subject your colors are understandably subdued, as flowers tend to fade over time. Still the black backround makes for a nice contrast and presents them well. Do I find them cliche? Perhaps a little, but not to the extent that would carry well in this challenge.

If I had voted this challenge, and I didn't, I feel I would have scored your photo with a 5. Technically well done, but challenge requirements fall a bit short.

OK. I gave this a 5 in voting. My idea of this topic was to take the best picture you can of a cliche topic - in order to appreciate all those pretty, cliche shots you see all the time. Roses are cliche, but this is not how you usually see them. The dust and decay of these flowers just turned me off. It's interesting, but not very appealing to me.
Technically, it's very good. I like the colors and tones and focus. Lighting is even. Composition seems a little weird b/c of all the negative space on top but the bottom rose is cut in half, and the right side is cropped too close.
I am a tough voter. To get a good score from me, it has to be good technically and have be an appealing picture that took time and effort. You have the time and effort and technique down. Upon reflection, this might deserve a 6, but that gut reaction works against you in challenges where there are so many photos to go through.

The contents on the roses give the ross nice texture. There is too much negative space.

A different take on rose photos. I like the lighting, composition, and capture of detail. Nicely done.

I don't know why, but the colours in this amaze me so much. I love dead roses too, and feel you have captured the mood of their death. beautiful. 10 -Annida

The flowers looks a bit fake to me... are they real?

Should have stayed forgotten, it's an ugly picture. Sorry to sound critical, but the colors are dull and there's mold or dust all over the subject.
