Lighting AlienBee B800 shot through PhotoFlex LiteDome softbox (L/48") with internal baffle (no diffusion panel). Also used reflector to the right of the photo to help soften shadows on the subject's face.

Post-shot processing:
Slight edit to Levels to balance whitepoint of skintone.
Edit to Brightness/Contrast to throw the image into more of a dark feeling.
Punched up the Hue/Saturation by a little

Sharpened with USM

I fully expect that this image will receive numerous comments regarding either white balance or excessive contrast (darkness to those who don't differentiate). That's OK. This version of the image was done to generate a more artistic "feel" while drawing the viewers to the model's face by darkening the rest of the composition. I'm satisfied that I was able to get a clean, sharp capture of the subject while keeping the colors and a little texture from the background even with f/5.6. Using the light with the reflector gave me a little more control of how the subject was lit and the shading on him.

Great portrait! The colors are stunning. Just a personal opinion, but I think it may have been even better if there had not been the horizontal line in the background -- just the background of fall colors. But it is one of my favorites!

Excellent! I love the title referring to his autumn color hair. I like his expression and how he is off center in the photo. I would have prefered the background be a little less busy but its a great photo. 8

There is much autumn color in this challenge, but this is the funniest one.
Would have liked a little smile, but all in all a good picture.

I gotta say, I'm a little tired of the autumn colors, so this was a breath of fresh air... a whole new take on the colors. What a handsome young man, who fits the scene perfectly. Next time, make sure you use your full 640 pixels!! All in all, though, this is very nice. :)

I love this! Beautifully composed. I like the intense look in his face as though he just caught the photographer snapping his pic. I am thrilled that his blue eyes stand out. DOF is perfect!

A little small, but nicely done! Like how he's leaning out of the frame, and the river takes you the same way with the subtle tilt!
