I had an idea for end.
It would have won the challenge.
Maybe even a PB.
I had no idea how to do it. :)
I really had no desire to dig a grave. But I wanted to do a shot from down inside a grave, looking up. Up on the surface I'd have a guy in a top hat and coat with a shovel, shoveling in dirt. I'd have a woman in victorian garb, black, with a hat and a veil, holding a handkerchief and peering down in. There would be dirt coming off the shovel down towards the camera.
It would have been awesome!
I had everything but the grave. And really didn't want to dig one.
As for the entry: I've loved this type of still life since I saw something like it on 1x. I've always liked things with a story, and some people can get the flowers to be so expressive.
I went out to the field with wildflowers, and found a couple of the few that were left. There actually was a couple of small buds that were really wonderful. Seeing the buds and the dead flower made me think of my mom. I lost her 2.5 years ago to dementia. She was such a wonderful grandma, and I wanted to have one or two of the buds looking in sadness, but it didn't work out.
So I went with the flower.
It was horrible watching my mother decay. That's basically what happens with dementia. Both the mind and the body just.... decay.
I wish I could have done this better. I will do this type of thing again. While it may get old for some, it really is rather cathartic.
Thanks for the comments. And thanks to my wonderful DPL team for an incredible season. I'm sorry to see it end.

So nicely done Wendy. I am a sucker for a nicely done still life. It is cathartic working on a still life image; your mind gets immersed into the fine details, light, storytelling, control, etc. This is more so than other genres I think; pity we don't do more of it. |

Very elegant capture. The curvy lines and clarity of the flower against the black backdrop. Beautiful. |
