Thanks for the comments. I had mixed feelings about this. This is an age of screens and cell-phones and almost no way to escape glancing at technology. So, I admit there are times when I use a phone when my child is present. All that being said, this was a Dave and Busters and this kid never acted out, and just stared into "the middle distance" the whole time. I had to snap the picture sideways with my phone, and I got two shots, this expression was perfect. I don't mind the lopsided-ness of the shot, but all those hori/vert lines make it tough to look straight. I had to make it a bit brighter, but otherwise not process it too much.

I am thrilled this shot did well, and for the bling. For me a snapshot is unplanned, catches a slice of time, perhaps tells an impromptu story. I believe that the snapshot has to look planned in the eyes of the shooter, and perhaps that too much randomness in the scene can appear contrived. And since I am guilty of that scenario on so many occasions, I wanted this to neatly fit in the four walls of the shot.

I meant to comment on this during the challenge but (perhaps ironically) I think I was pulled away by the needs of a child. Although perhaps that is coincidence rather than irony.
Anyway, this is stellar. The composition, lighting, and captured moment are stellar (and a sad truth anywhere we look).
Well done. If I gave ribbons this would get the top one.

This speaks out loud on so many levels. I haven't even seen all the pictures on the challenge but I know this is going to be up there somewhere. Brilliant.

The look on the kids face says it all...why bother taking your child out that's if it is her child on a date when your just going to spend time on your phone, it's one of my pet gripes of today's society, and people wonder why children are depressed these days!!! Good find by the way on a sad and true commentary of life these days, and one that we see all too often!
