Apologies for the lateness of commenting. I had to look at this many time as I knew there was a lot more to it than one encounter could do justice. A wonderfully crafted collection. I think it represents the culmination of your usual work and your recent travels. I can see you subtly drawing a parallel between the cultural rawness of Oaxaca and the technological shrouded displays in your city. Oaxaca may still embrace and live in the religious-mystical realms and the city celebrates that in a veiled fashion, with the knowledge that its' presence still triggers fundamental instincts. But are either of them or any of it real? Oh well, that's my limited take on it so far, maybe I have a real problem ;). Really do enjoy this, especially with the insight of your previous work. |

I think reality is such a complex, many layered idea. There is the reality of the external world that the photograph captures a split second of. Whether that split second is an accurate portrayal of the external real world reality is questionable. Then there is a deeper reality. A more vague, internal universal knowledge which can be touched and moved inside of ourselves by a photograph.
Thank you Mariuca for challenging me to explore this subject with your beautiful photography. |

As photographers, we continually question while trying to see. The more clues we uncover the more curious we become. I'd argue the act of capturing an image is closer to reality than the end result. A photograph might look like reality but it̢۪s only a piece of a brief moment in time. It is flat, silent, has no odor, ignorant of everything outside the frame, and sometimes colorless. Are photographs even capable of representing reality? In essay format we get closer but reality can't be held and studied.
Enjoyable collection of natural overlays. |
