For what it's worth, I personally believe the wide black frame is very much required for this image to maintain intensity.
It seems quite a few people don't like frames for some reason. Yet every picture has a frame, like it or not. "Why not make the frame work for the photo instead of against it?" I say.
This is my favourite shot of the challenge. Pity I missed the voting. |

Thanks for the comments. The frame is not a part of the picture, It's a frame. Maybe it was too big and maybe not. Try to look at the picture, this is a picture contest, not a frame contest. The frame was this wide cause I had to make a certain border between the gray background and the picture. This picture looses it's intensity if it's surrounded by gray color. I would understand some of these "frame" comments if the color was green og red but not like this |

Moving picture- a sense of isolation, despair, loneliness perhaps...fits the challenge on a different level than just financial "poverty". Wish it was a bit sharper in focus, border is a bit distracting. Still, one of my favs in this challenge. |

I don't like the thick border, I think it detracts from an otherwise good shot. |

Good color in the sky, would loved to have seen a close-up of the face or tighter shot of the entire scene. Mental poverty as a theme would be more vivid if you had a tortured, depressed, anguished or even blank face. Still, nice layout, composition etc. |

This I like, the balance between the background and the subject works for me. |

Very interesting shot. The texture of the walls/ceiling against the sky (and beautiful colors of the sunset) make this a very eye-catching shot. Great job! |

Great shot! |

This photo communicates more a message of despair than mental poverty, in my opinion, but I'm still giving it a 9 -- very powerful and well done. Terrific location to shoot, will have to come back to find out where this is. Good luck to you in the challenge! |

very pretty shot. Nice tones and colors. I think it is to dark however on the boy. I cant see enough of him to see poverty |

I found this shot to be interesting. Unlike most of the other good shots (IMO) it DID use color. Admittedly the palate isn't very large here, but it does give striking contrast between sky and room(?). I love the feeling of insignificance attributed to the subject. Good job! |

I like the idea of the grey walls as a symbol of an unimaginative mind and the pose which he is holding things in. |

A fresh but important approach to the subject. A very well composed and lighted photograph which leaves room for thinking. I find the frame a bit on the wider side. |

The border is a bit on the thick side. A larger frame of the image would have been nice to see more detail in a great image. |

really nice pic but i don't understand the need for such a thick border that detracts from the pic rather than emphasising it - 8 |
