While on vacation in North Carolina we went out to see some of the Western North Carolina Quilt Trail. This one is known as Old Maid's Ramble and can be found just off Hwy 19 in Burnsville.
The Quilt Trail idea started with Donna Sue Groves of Ohio when she thought of the idea to honor her late mother by displaying a quilt patterned block on her old barn. Today, more than 24 states have Quilt Trails. The Quilt Trail in Western North Carolina is the largest Quilt Trail in the USA, with more quilt blocks showcased on the sides of old barns and old homesteads than anywhere else in the US. On different routes of the Trails one will typically see numerous examples of the barn quilts as you travel down the county's roads and scenic byways.
