 I did not plan this entry. I was playing golf and saw a beautiful blue heron in the adjacent pond. After playing I went back to the pond and was lucky enough to find the heron still present. I took multiple exposures as he took off from his fishing spot. When I saw the "Blue" challenge with expert editing rules I decided to try to compose an entry using the heron. The next day I took some sky shots for the backround. Basically it was an exercise of cut and paste, but since I have not done a lot of layers compositing there was much trial and error. I am pleased with the final result and am motivated to learn more photoshop tricks in the future.

Just beautiful. The sky is magical. The light on the herons lends great immediacy. The "poses" are precisely keyed to alternate wing beats and the lift of the legs. I love that the plumage is a bit rough, unlike in a guide book, allowing the bird's uniqueness to show.

I don't know why I keep staring at the position of each bird. Only 1 bird, but so much is going on in that setup. Front page. A 9 from me
