He looks so resigned to his fate. Almost as if he has accepted it and is just waiting for it to end to go on to somewhere better.
Very sad, but very good capture.

The background needs blurred more, and a crop showing the rest of him would be better.

Poverty doesn't just mean being "without money." The old are often rich with wisdom. His shirt looks new, not raggedy, and his basket isn't that torn and bad either. The typical person asking for such handouts in the US makes an average of $50 a day...some - in more affluent cities, make up to $500 a day.

I wish we could see more of his face, I think it would have had more impact.

What? I know this guy. He's one of Sony's executives. Every weekend he takes a basket of Sushi to the park to feed the pigeons. :-) Good shot.

If only the people in the background were omitted. The age, expression and clarity of the man was right on. This might ribbon.

this had the makings of a great capture, but the cropping kills it. if you had backed off enough to get the whole basket, it would have been a much stronger shot.

This is by far one of the better submissions. My only negative comments are the spot on the hair, and on the ground that are a bit over exposed. The fact that you were williing to get near eye level, and not take this from a standing position, does alot for this picture. Good shot.

I've realized that, for me, a good poverty shot is incredibly sad
good representation of the challenge

Powerful image, shows poverty. I would however have cropped out the right side instead of framing him right in the center.

And alone, which is a poverty even worse than the monetary kind.

this is a lovely image and you should be proud of it. I have one critical comment wht on earth did you crop so hard on the bottom of this image? I think you should have left all the bowl plus more in .THIS IS HERE THE IMAGE IS AND SPEAKS.
it really frustrates me GRRRR!!!!!

I think you got a bit too close, I would like to see more at the bottom, atleast under his hand. Otherways it's good.

The people in the background, while useful for context, are distracting to the actual subject of the photo. This is well captured however, and i like it better than many others i have seen so far.
