Challenge: In the Style of Mary Ellen Mark (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark III
Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
Date: Jun 1, 2015
Date Uploaded: Jun 1, 2015

I have no idea how this will be received. I was going to use it in the Quiet challenge, but I re-read the description, and I feared a lot of DNMC.

Of course, I fear DNMC in this one as well, mostly because I don't include the eyes. But I did that for dramatic effect.

We'll see.

I lit this in an odd way. I used a monolight with a softbox from camera right. This helped illuminate the background, and open up some shadows on me. The key light is another monolight from camera left with a barn door attached. This was to get the harder light, which seems a little more sinister.

I'm just not feeling even an ounce of MEM here.

Perhaps there is a Mark reference I'm not getting. I apologise if that is the case. For me the only thing that reminds me of Mark is the b&w. I don't think it is a bad shot though, quite the contrary, only not perfect for this challenge. Best of luck! :)

Sorry, I've seen a lot of studio style portraits that mary did but, while technically well done, this just seems like far too much of a "set up" shot for a challenge in her style.
