Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Jimmy...
I think you have a great concept for a 'door' photo with this shot. I actually thought about something like this myself but didn't pursue it. I'm glad I didn't because I don't think I could have done it this well :) I was planning to create a red light and probably desaturate everything but the red channel in the finished result to create some sort of eerie effect with the photo. Your choice of steam to increase the impact of your light blast worked very well also.
I would have probably played around with the exposure on this shot a little to try to create some more definition on the keyhole as well. I think this shot would have even greater impact if the keyhole outline was defined a little more. That may have required a little different light angle so that the light source wasn't hitting your camera lens as directly as well... it may have also cast a really cool beam of light :)
Keep up the good work!
John Setzler

I tried this same shot in B&W and it looked very flat. I adjusted the curves in PS to get a more violet looking light through the door. I'm especially proud of this shot because I didn't go insane with Photoshop. This photo could have been entered in a regular challenge legally. Thanks for all of the nice comments.
Just wanted to add that the reason the door isn't sharp is because of the steam.

Totally different take on this challenge. You win for most unique. I think every old house was painted this color at one time or another. This photo stands out by itself and should place well up there. Well done. |

Weird and spooky. I can't imagine what must be behind there! That door handle is really interesting, I wish the bright light didn't obscure it so much. |

shades of poltergeist, or close encounters. excellent. if the door was a bit sharper (better focused) would be improved. |

That's a cool effect. I think a different crop, maybe so that the light was either exactly centered, or a little bit more off, would have given an overall better balanced feeling. |

I like the simplicity of the pic. works well with the light shining through the key hole. I also like the soft violet colors that contrast with the wood color. Good Job! John Gill |

I'm back for yet another look at this. At first glance, I didn't like it at all. Now, I find the mysterious feel of it kind of intriguing. I think I would have liked a tighter crop-cropping just a little below the keyhole, but otherwise find the composition fairly satisfying. Really like the look of the old door. |

it looks like the door might be leaning against a wall with a light in between, i think you have a great idea, but, i would have liked to have seen the image where the door looked closed with the same light coming through the cracks and keyhole. |
