Another face has a plaque which reads : In honour of Australian soldiers who fought in South Africa 1899-1902 (second Boer War).

This monument stands in the median gardens in Sturt Street - Ballarat's main thoroughfare - within a few metres of a statue of Queen Victoria and just opposite the Town Hall.
I have tried to impart an old look to the photo, in keeping with the era it depicts.
