I'm not a big fan of these literal challenges, so I knew I wasn't going to go looking for an actual fish. I LOVE how this turned out, and how actually fish-like it looks. So it doesn't really matter that this will finish in the bottom half of the challenge :)
Of course, I'm the model. It's how I get my exercise, pretending to float, while simultaneously tossing cloth and pressing the remote. Then getting up to view the images. Then doing it again about 100 times until the right cloth shape is caught on camera. This particular shot had the right fluidity, and is also the only one where my legs show through it, instead of under it.
Originally I had intended to rotate it to vertical, to give the impression of swimming up. But decided that the lines demanded a diagonal rotation.

Yes, I did start this thread because of this image. //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=1290407&page=1#7345197
It was a perfect opportunity to discuss a topic I've often thought about. So many challenge suggestions are about objects (i.e. socks, nails, glasses, etc.) that the prospect of looking at 50 or more pictures of the same thing from different angles is just too depressing.
This is my "protest" image, and Anita's response was exactly what I'd hoped for. I spent considerable time trying to create something as fish like as possible without it being an actual fish. To be clear, I fully expected this to be punished for lack of literalness. And that is what the thread is about.

Re the "dirty sensor"... yup, that was part of the pp'g :)
I'm thrilled with the response to this image. I never expected it to finish this high, much less on the front page. But the comments and fave were a delightful prize. |

I would use this as a member profile photo. |

Love this Johanna; affect I was trying to get with my image with the goldfish. I love your creativity. |

Wow really surprised this was not on the front page. Well guess the voters didn't see any slimy scales:)
I know that a pro like you wouldn't have a dirty sensor. |

Totally under rated Johanna, I was one of the 8's. This has the of passion of tango. |

Wonderful processing and atmospheric piece of art. Possibly some dirty sensor marks but could be just the texture - very minor issue but thought you may appreciate me mentioning it. I hope this does well for you. It should do. |

While voting yesterday, I paused at this one and thought this looks like it could be a Johanna shot. I gave it a 7. Then, today I saw the "balancing literal and creative interpretation" and thought, she is right -- the bold, out-of-the-box creativity should be rewarded. So, bumping it to an 8. |

Nice image, but I find the partial yellow halo very distracting. But I like the rest of the colours :) |

Feels like a Johanna photograph - pairs well with "A Fish Tail" - they'd make a nice set! |

I wonder how many are dinging you for not it being an actual fish?
I totally get this
Special mention. The softness of the fabric and this layout is just very calming to me
Commenting only because it won't allow me to vote on my phone |

Grace under(water) pressure. Maybe a stretch for "fish" but a lovely image. |

I absolutely LOVE this! I wish it was mine.
I'm struggling with 'does not fit the challenge' but...honestly screw it! It's wonderful! I've had a couple of images which have gotten the snot kicked out of them for DNFC (Real Estate ALWAYS comes to mind......lol) which I loved because they were 'my' vision of the challenge. This is that image. 9. Wonderful! |

I have to admit I was nearly fooled, the thumbnail did suspicously look like a fish tail. |
