Again, nice lines, but what do they "lead" to?

Hmmm, this one made me stop and think about the concept of "leading lines". It is a lovely image, beautiful staircase. But they wrap around what might be considered the main subject. Is that "leading"? Or is it making me skirt about the statue. I keep wanting to follow the stairs up and around to their mysterious destination. So they are successfully leading me "up". However, as the statue is in the dark (and the bright spots on the wall are blown out), I'm barely aware of it's presence in the shadows. The lines don't "lead" to it. Fascinating.
