It's an illusion.

If you questioned the validity of the image, you can request a validation, and I would be happy to send in the original as it is one exposure, no snarky science lesson needed.

The moon often rises here when it is still light out...this is how I got the clouds in the exposure as this would have been nearly impossibly with a completely dark sky. On this evening the clouds were good and there was no haze...sometimes things just work out nicely, I see it, I catch it, simple as that.

Moon is nice and sharp and I like the balance of the composition. Not that interesting to me though. Gave it a five but predict something much closer to your own guess. 5.7

I hate most moon shots but this adds the clouds and some technique and a sense of real depth. You might be right about the medium score but I'll guess a bit higher 5.87 but give a seven vote myself as the best of the moon shots.

I love moon shots and it is very difficult to get a good capture with detail on the moon and have any other elements included in the shot. you've done well here and I think you've scored it a little low I guess a 6.2 and will vote a seven for this. I would have voted higher for colour. Good Luck

This reminded me of the death star from Star Wars, maybe because of the spot? Interesting capture of the moon, and I think you are pretty close in your estimate of the final score. 5.7

Nice job on the exposure! Detail in clouds and the moon can be tough. I suspect it shoud score higher than it will, just because it's not terribly flashy. 5.8

Very nice to see such clarity of the moon combined with the softness of the clouds. You have really created a feeling that the moon is floating. Your estimate is low, in my opinion. 6.20

Amazing moon shot. One of the best I have seen till now. Maybe darken the lower part of the picture. It will go much higher than your guess. I think close to 6.2

I voted you a 7 because it's an amazing picture, but you have clouds behind the moon. Last I looked, the moon is 238,900 miles away and those clouds might be 30,000 feet. Still, I like the shot.

One of the nicest images of the moon. Sharp among the clouds (are they clouds?!). Not a clue how you got it, but if it's within the rules, it's stunning. My vote is 8, DPC crowd is unpredictable... 6.30

Beautiful clouds and transition to dark. I might like it almost as much without the moon. I like that you centered the moon-gives it some tension.i gave it a six. I predict 6.2.
