5.9 is my prediction. I'm giving you a 6, it's a nice bw conversion (maybe needs a tad more black) but I'm struggling with the composition in the foreground. It could be unavoidable as it is.
I bet those clouds move really fast over the mountain, I've seen that recently where I live. |

| Definitely going to score better than 5.38. But for some reason, the tones on the land look very flat in this. I also thin the bottom crop is too abrupt, leaving fragments of dark patches bottom left of center. I'd say at least 6.4 |

| you are definitely too low in your guess. There is a certain majesty to this photo that will take your score higher. They won't like the black and white, though, causing foreground elements to blend into each other (i.e., the trees get lost). A five from me and from DPC a 5.9 |

I think this is one of best. Not Sure if DPC will though. I think you do gain an advantage in this challenge by not following the rules because your title points the viewer where you want them to and I do not know if I would have automatically noticed how the clouds appear to be waves in this image without it. You deserve higher than your guess. I also think the B&W takes away from this image,. The mountain, grass, and trees blend into each other and its hard to see where one object stops and the next starts. 6 from me

An interesting scene, but I don't believe you've done it justice. I know who shot this and I also know that your work is normally much more engaging than this. I know you will tell me this is absolutely level but the impression to a viewer's brain is that it needs righting. Images have audiences and their perception is as important as your intent when it comes to the forming of their vote.
Those two trees are disappearing into the hillside beyond doesn't work for me, and a low tonal level is set a little high for me - there is more shadow than there needs to be. I see few patches of true black, but too much just above the black point.
What was your workflow? Did you apply curves?
I think you've done a great job with the highlights, but it isn't matched by the shadow work.
Having said all that, I think you'll get a bit more than your estimate. 5.65 perhaps?
(I've looked on three monitors - granted only one allowed me to differentiate between the last two black blocks on the scale, but it didn't help with my appreciation of the image).
Perhaps it just a really hard scene to capture - I do believe that. |

the waves are really cool, but the mountains and woods mingle with each other too much.

| Great capture of some awesome cloud movement, Wow this is nice and sharp ,sky is spectacular with good exposure through out nice DOF and you're too low in yyour score I guess a 6.4 and I'll vote it at seven Good Luck |

Very dramatic sky. The whole image feels a little flat to me. Maybe because I am voting from my office computer. I'll take a look again at home from my 27"iMac. I think you are low on your estimate. Should be around 6.28 I should think.

| The tumult of the low, advancing clouds accentuates the angles of the mountains. B&W was a good choice - taking advantage of the tonal range. There is movement in this image although it has a rock solid foundation. Five point three eight is a low ball for this image in my opinion. Translation: I'm awarding it better than a five. |

| Granted, I'm new to the site, so don't feel like I really understand how voting works, but I'm not sure why you'd guess so low when this photo, to me, appears to have interesting composition, textures and tones. I love the clouds and think the title is clever, took me a minute as I was looking for "waves" :) |

I see you figured the image needed some help with a bit extra in the title.
The clouds that appear to be crashing over the mountains are spectacular but the foreground appears a bit flat.
I do think your assessment is low.

| 5.7 If I peer into this image I can see the beauty, but at first glance it's kind of busy and garbled. The land is extremely flecked, which doesn't allow the eye to come to rest, and the sky is overwhelmed by the clouds. Maybe the black and white treatment doesn't do the scene justice. |

Eerie. I once saw something like this while riding northbound on 395 east of the Sierras in May a few years back. The waves never did crash over, but when I turned west the next day, I got to ride in a snow storm. Later, rain never felt so warm.
Perhaps more contrast in the darker parts of the mountains would enhance this image. |
