To me this is sort of torn between being a silhouette and an environmental, story-telling shot. Usually silhouettes are stronger when close up, and story-telling shots tend to work better when there is detail visible throughout. Exposing for the sky brought some nice detail into the clouds, but at the expense of everything else. |

I've done some climbing, and you are right, it takes some determination along with a host of other characteristics to get it done. |

In lingering, I've come to appreciate this picture. The dark fore- and midground backed by a brighter background is quite dramatic, in keeping with the subject matter itself. I also feel that the dark left side is strongly balanced by the right side despite strictures that abjure this kind of central division. |
