Was at a Civil War re-enactment event. Before hand there was a tea and fashion show for the ladies. Saw this elegant lady with a beautiful dress. Asked her if she would pose. The difficult part was picking the pose I wanted . She was an excellent model. . . even suggesting some poses. I couldn't miss. This lady had posed before. I picked this shot because of the background colors and fall theme. Also, the plants behind her dress seemed to mimic the flare and style of the dress. The plant also set of the color off of her dress along with the cream color of the house siding. In everyone of the picture I took that day, skin tones turned out pinkish because it was a bright sunny fall day and people had spent a lot of time outside. Trying to tone the skin color down while maintaing color saturation was a challenge.

In Photoshop: cropped for effect eliminating some of the background distractions; also smudged out a distracting white spot in the background; sized for the web; adjusted colors; adjusted selective color tones in her face to tone down red tints (although she was wearing makeup that highlighted her red hair and it was a bright day); sharpened; re-adjusted brightness slightly.

I think there is nothing wrong with your subject, in fact it's pretty interesting to see fashion from other eras. My feeling is this would have been a much more effective photo if the background matched the subject a little more. For example, if she were standing in front of a house or building from the era, or if the background were completely neutral, like a field, it would add much more feeling to the picture.

Nice picture. Well exposed. What I am drawn to is the repetition on the shape of her skirt with the flower bed behind her. I apologize, but I find it amusing. There might have been a better spot within the area to set up the shot, like the porch?

I wish we were looking either directly at her, or up to her, versus down.

I have only one thing to whine about, that's that powerline or whatever is going up against the house, it's kinda "out of time"
I think if you clone that out, convert it to sephia ad a realy nice old looking border to it that you would have a realy great photo, as a gift maybe or to hang on your wall... Well that's what I would do..

She is a great opportunity for a good portrait. The pose and exposure is good, but the background is in a bad relation to the person in front. I'd suggest to either use a more neutral or a more related background or to blur this one into oblivion with a wide aperture.

Great Costume! i'm sure a dozen ppl have mentioned the non-period electrical wire. Why did you shoose that angle of the camera, looking down on the model? maybe it shows the skirt better.
