Topaz adjust (painting bold, sunset dynamic, painting bold again)
crop bottom 5% (top of my fence)
clone incidentals (stray vines from fence at bottom of frame, and stray branch from nearby tree on left side)
smudge cloned areas to blend into snow and top center of sky
resize in 75/50/25% increments

I've had this submitted for a day and a half and I keep coming back to look at it; I still see what when I initially enjoyed, and as such it's staying, however for some reason I'm starting to get really harsh on my editing, notably on the house in the distance. I truly wanted this to come out looking slightly flat as most paintings are not highly detailed, the sky is the way I want it, the trees do not bother me, but something about the house on the horizon isn't sitting well with me.
I'm hoping to get some comments on this image during voting, and I really hope that I'm not the only one with this style of an image where others are looking for painting-esque subjects and photographing them in high detail (like a bowl of fruit, or a vase of flowers) |

*Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*
A sunset that meets the challenge.
I have to be honest my initial impression was negative until I saw the challenge you have entered it for and now I understand the reason for the processing, so with that in mindâ€Â¦ The house is the only sharp feature in the image and therefore becomes a stronger focal point than I assume you wanted it to be. Personally I don't think it detracts especially given your title you want it to emphasise the buildings, as it does.
I have to say I don't like the softness through the rest of the image but I do understand why you have opted for it but I think the whites should be whiter through additional exposure. The composition is fitting for the intended purpose, I like the low horizon. I am surprised that you left the cloning as you did, it doesn't add but detracts from the image left like this.
A generally pleasing image that has room for improvement but thanks for your submission, Sid |
