Smokey Kitty is a rescue cat, who was abandoned in my neighborhood by his previous owners when they moved.

It took me 90 days of feeding and cooing at him before he would let me pet him. Then he showed up with a horrible wound in his rear leg and I had to grab him and set up a kitty hotel in my extra bathroom as the vet was closed for the a long holiday weekend. Surgery fixed his physical wounds but it took a lot longer for him to feel comfortable anywhere but under the bed.

Three years later, he is devoted to me, loves to cuddle, and will come find me and meow at me until I go sit on the couch and give him his rightful attention and cuddles.

I didn't want or need a third cat, but this guy was so compelling, that I had to make room for him in our happy little family.

*Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*
A very competent animal portrait that partially meets the challenge.

You have isolated the cat nicely from the background with, presumably maximum aperture for the focal length giving a pleasing result. Whether this is enough to fulfil the challenge brief in full is a separate issue, personally I wouldn't say I see happy or feel happier as a result. No doubt he is a lot happier than he was as a result of your loving care but I have the benefit of your comments to determine that, the voters would not.

Your focus is good and sharp on the eyes and the lighting is good with good detail throughout. I do find the material on which he is sat very competitive for my attention it keeps drawing me away from the cat which is obviously not what you want. Overall its a very good portrait.

Apologies for the delayed critique, as they say, better late than never, Sid
