This magical place in Iceland is so beautiful in the autumn colors. The glacial river runs alongside a lava ridge where pure rainwater trickles from the lava into the river in countless small waterfalls.

Hi Garry and thank you very much for your thorough and constructive critique. I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner, but I didn't see this until now. Just for your information then this is shot over a glacial river from the other bank, the fresh water trickles through the lava and into the river from a long lava ridge, a very beautiful place here in Iceland. You can see some more photos from this place at my flickr site
The reason for the not so sharp focus on the trees and bushes is that this day unfortunately it was a bit windy, so with the long exposure time then the focus gets a bit blurred.
Thanks again for your time you put into the critique
All the best from Iceland

Firstly, let me extend a personal welcome to DPC, glad to have you on board!
For a Free Study entry, I think you did really well with this image. A placing of 34th out of 152 and a score of 6.25 is very respectable! Clearly it says you did most things right with this image.
What I liked about this image: Pretty much everything. I think your choice of a slow shutter speed to make the water milky in appearance was excellent. It really adds a nice interest point to the image when you get that ghostly feel. Also, the sky is nice and heavy! You chose a good day to shoot this as the clouds really add a sense of drama to the scene. Lastly, between all the greys of the sky and the sea, you have this great little pop of autumnal colors in the trees and flowers on the ridge. A lovely contrast to the image portion above and below!
What I didn't like: honestly, not much. I'm actually surprised you didn't score better with this image as there's really nothing lacking in composition or processing. The only things that might have been better are perhaps your focus (the tree look a little soft and not sharp, but not surprising if you were shooting from a boat?) and placement of the horizon (I feel it'd be a stronger image if you either emphasized the sea or the sky, but as is we're stuck between, and the eye can settle on the image. Mine keeps bouncing from sea to sky to sea to sky etc. A less centered horizon might have made for a stronger composition).
Regardless, I think this is a fantastic image and do hope you will submit more entries on a more frequent basis in the future!
Feel free to PM me if you wish to discuss my critique!

Interesting image the water flow gives it attraction the color blend could have been better some more punch a little would have been enough good composition and detail
What, you don't have aurora borealis all day too? just kidding..
Nicely done with the exposure here, the sharp contrasty rocks, colored foliage and waterfalls create all kinds of drama and the softness in the water and the clouds keep it all balanced.
