I admit my first thought was Pink Floyd. Spent most of my youth listening to them and Dark Side of the Moon.
I ddn't take off for originality even though I thought it was a cover rip ;-) Nice photo. |

Thanks for all the comments you guys! This was a fun picture and most of the comments made me glad I went with it instead of the *sunset*. :) Here is my belated, collective response:
1. To those that mentioned it...THE PRISM IS CLEAN! It is, however, about 20 years old and has spent most of its poor life being shuffled around from drawer to drawer--thus the awful scuff marks. I know it detracts, but I liked the general idea so I went with it. 2. The blurriness is a pain to me because my original RAW file is perfectly clear--I wonder how to keep it from getting so lossy? I saved it right at 149k...What can I do differently? 3. Pink Floyd was not technically the inspiration--actually a rainbow was the original inspiration, but not being able to get a good shot of it, I tried to make one (with my garden hose!), needless to say, that was a waste of a good hour. So, THEN I dug out my prism--and with Dark Side of the Moon in mind, spent the rest of the day trying to get the shot.

the rainbow looks like it's being cast right into the air! crazy! if only the prisim were a bit more polished. |

I think you could have cropped or framed this better to achieve a more balanced image and to not have the prism cut off. |

i really like this shot -- the capture of the prism, and the dark vs. light background. would it have been possible to shine the prism so the smudges didn't show? |

Definately captured the transformation of light to color. Not a high difficulty factor but nice effect for category. |

I like how the shaft of colored light seems to be vibrating or in motion, as though it is splitting apart before my eyes. Great shot! |

Nice spectrum. Although the transition from the white light to the spectrum isn't exactly clear (if that's even what you're trying to convey).
Maybe if we could see the source of the original light in the frame? |

I just don't know how to comment on this photo at all. I will just score it a 10 and go throw my camera in the dumpster outside.... This is the most original 'transition' i have seen today. = 10 |

great capture of the colors of the prism! To get really picky, it would have been just a bit better with a larger frame, looks like the bottom corner of the prism is cut off. Oh and the prism looks like it needs a quick cleaning. Otherwise I really like this! |
