 I thought I had an interesting idea, but boy do I still struggle with getting sharp focus where I want it. It was (apparently) especially challenging with the size requirments for this challenge. Those hay bales were quite a distance away, but it still seems to me they should have been able to be nice and sharp. Was it simply because I did not use a tripop? (I'm pulling off the interstate for these, and while legal, I still find it intimidating and I dislike having people pull over and ask me questions, so I try to work fast.) I know I could/should have done some compositing to get the hay and corn both sharp - but I would have even taken just some nice looking hay bales.

(This was my third trip out taking shots for this challenge - and this group of images at least I had some improved composition. This was my best shot I think.)

Painterly (do I really know what this word means?) abstraction, apart from its distinct reality, of shapes, colors and textures. Could be Cezanne or van Gogh, but it stands quite wonderfully on its own considerable merits.

A beautiful use of color and texture to fill the long photo. My only quibble is that the sky is so skinny as to distract me with sort of a false top to the photo. Still, an 8 from me!

Bounteously golden. Good comp for the topic.Reminds me of one of those 19th cent French painters. Maybe Millet.
