I was trying to think of a creative way to use toothpicks. No doubt there will be countless studio shots, moody portraits of tuff guys with toothpicks sticking from their mouths etc...so automatically I rejected all those options.
Then I remembered my woodies. How could I use them and the toothpicks in a fun yet familiar way? Then I came up with the idea of toothpicks as the stems of flowers. Here is the result. I bought multi-coloured toothpicks and appropriated all the green ones :-) used coloured sticky-backed craft foam for the flowers, just cut them out and wrapped them around the picks. Drew some freehand swirly designs with markers a piece of paper to use as the wrapper. Had to put a glob of red play-doh in the bottom to stick the stems into. Dang I need to get green play-doh, I had to clone out red where I saw it peeking :-/
Shot outdoors with the woodies standing on a cutting board for stability. They are actually free-standing; I experimented and was able to get them leaning into each other enough that I didn't need to use a doll stand to support one. Ironically, the female woody (has boobies) is the broad-shouldered one with her back to the camera, the male woody is the one getting the bouquet!
Camera on tripod, shot just on the tail end of golden hour - and had to shoot pretty fast, the mosquitoes were snacking on me despite the OFF!
pp: shot RAW, straighten, crop, brightness/contrast, vibrance/saturation, minor cloning, resize, sharpen, save for web
