Broccoli turns out to be a very strange plant, a tenacious garden beast with an impressive will to live. I have several plants that are now well over a year old, and have remained productive the entire time. The plant pictured here is a garden "volunteer," having simply popped up where it did—happily a favorable location—so I took it under my care. Eventually it produced the largest broccoli crown I've ever seen. It must have been at least three or four pounds.
This is part of the second or third flush, I forget which. (Some of my oldest plants have produced so many florets that I must have harvested from them more than a dozen times.) These blossoms had an oddly purple color to them and were not your typical green in any case. At some point, I'll have to put up a copy of the original photo for comparison.

... I been out of this game a while, really, and guessing one's score ahead of time is something I've yet to see anyone do with much success. Nonetheless, I'm hoping (more than guessing or predicting), that the usual shapes, colors, and POP of the shallow DOF will encourage voters to default to 6 rather than 5, perhaps ending me up with a score a little over 6.
But if I get a 4.3, that's all right, too. |
