My daughter found this puppy outside her office - which is on a reservation in New Mexico. He was alone, cold, hungry, covered with ticks and yelling like crazy. She brought him inside, fed him, warmed him up and tried to find his owner, but no one claimed him. It was just before my birthday and we had lost one of our much beloved canine friends just before Christmas, so naturally she thought I should be gifted with this little one. She called her Dad and the two of them conspired and she made the six hour trip home to bring him to me. Surprise!!! The first 3 nights he cried all night long. When I say "cry" I really mean howled.... to the point where he actually pointed his little nose skyward and let everyone know how lonely and miserable he was. So, of course, I got up after a while and spent the night with him. Just look at that face. How could I not?
My daughter and son had bathed him and removed the ticks. He was checked out by our vet on Monday and was pronounced in good health despite everything he has been through. He was weighed (7 lbs. 6 oz.), measured, wormed, and given his first set of puppy shots. He was back this week for his second set of puppy shots. In three weeks time he has doubled his weight and now weighs 15 lbs. 4 oz. His feet are much bigger, and he is growing taller and is a little rangy right now. It will be fun to see what he looks like when he grows up. The vet thinks he is about 10 weeks old now. Despite his expression in this image, he is generally a happy little guy and wants to be in the middle of everything. He's going to do just fine :)
