 I was out in the middle of nowhere in Dubai looking for dune shots for the 'no sky landscape' challenge, and I happened upon this deserted road going right through these beautiful dunes. It's harder than it seems to shoot desert shots out here because of all of the fences, but there were NO fences out here. I went a ways out into the desert and saw this guy in the distance.

I went over and shook his hand. He seemed friendly, but he didn't speak English, and I don't speak Arabic so we didn't say much. After a few minutes I walked away, but got this shot after I got some distance between us.

I was frustrated when I got home because I really didn't like any of the shots where I could cut out the sky, but I loved this picture so the trip was worth it. It was a pretty surreal experience. As far as I know there aren't any houses for miles, and I didn't see any other cars on the one road that went out there, so it was a shock to meet someone in such a remote area like that. I felt like I was re-enacting the peyote scene from The Doors movie...

Lovely flowing dunes with surprising stands of bush and tree. The shadows are so deftly interwoven with the sunlit flanks of sand. My quirk, but I would prefer it without the person sitting there.
