I'm a sucker for doing Woody shots and trying to get the site to appreciate them... the idea for "MEET THE WOODIES" came to me almost immediately. However rather than just doing a 1:1 ratio album cover, I wanted to do it "in situ"... my original hope was to get my wife looking at records in an old record store and then superimposing my cover on one of those albums. But that never transpired.
So instead I staged the "garage sale" with some old albums I still had in the basement, sadly they were damaged by mildew at some point and stuck together, so it made it interesting to peel them apart to get them to make stacks. The Simon and Garfunkel was the cleanest of them all, so I used it for flavor.
The album I'm holding is actually an old "Up With People" record I'd picked up at some point.
I took the Woody photos close up with the light on one side, just like the MEET THE BEATLES! album cover shot from 1964. To get different "faces" I moved the light to the right side for some shots and then reversed the images in post.
The hair and sweaters are all hand drawn on paper and then photographed and overlaid. Same with the text that I added. Photographed, selected, placed and then filled with the proper color.
Tried for older look to the photo as well. And of course homage to Art!
Anxious to see how this will be received.

After nearly 36 hours, it's holding above 6. It did drop to a 5.69 yesterday, but started to climb out of the dive.
Never thought of the fact that I had two Arts: Our own Ken and Art Garfunkel. :)

Now it's dropped into Tiny Violin territory... very sad.
But at least I kept my clothes on.

Barely clinging to a 6 as we enter the final 30 minutes... 12 comments (I expected a few), but not enough to get this high placement it seems.
Hopefully we stay above 6. If not, then oh well, had a blast making it.

Obviously the real album is this:
I did use the same colors to color my text as the original. I wanted to add song titles to the cover, but decided to stay true to the original.
Some titles:
Norwegian Wood
I Wanna Hold Your Wood!
She Loves Wood!
The First Cut is the Deepest
and many more! |

Good thing it didn't ribbon. I'd have expected royalties. ;-) Great work, Kevin. I like that you went the "in situ" route. |

For some reason, this reminds of some other group. Can't quite put my finger on it. Neat idea. |

In addition to being a fine photo -- harmonious colors, interesting detail and unusual perspective -- it's really funny. And it's the only entry that creatively situates the cover in an environment. |
