7 images - moon (x2), orion, Metallica logo, Orion logo (title), me the guitarist and my wife's hair.
This has a bit of symbolism. The song is named after the constellation, Cliff Burton was a major writer of the song and the crash which took his life happened during the night while they were asleep. There are also elements from other album covers from Metallica - the 45 degree logo as seen on their eponymous album and the plain font album name.
The moon was photographed through my 1540mm Orion telescope, handheld with no lens or eyepiece, just the diagonal. The stars were shot at 800 ISO and 8s. I managed to get stars and erase noise in one step (I think contrast in ViewNX). Metallica logo was black and is a photo of the logo on my monitor, edited and inverted. "ORION" was typed in Word. I don't have an effective noise filter, so I rely on resizing to get rid of noise. The photo of the moon has a lot of noise!
Orion's outline there is me with some of my wife's hair. I cloned out all the background, cloned the hair (it looked better than on the final image), cloned shadows, cut the subject out, added it to my final image and was just finishing up when PS crashed. Lost everything so had to start all over again. :( |
