 I took this shot during the NYC get-together at the Bronx Zoo. It was feeding time, and the grizzlies were doing "tricks," including this snarl. Taken on an overcast day using the 70-200mm f/4L lens and 1.4x teleconverter (480mm equivalent)- handheld in a crowd.

I cloned out a spot over the bear's ear, dodged & saturated the eyes, and whitened the teeth. Then applied Shadow/Highlight filter, USM, levels, HSL and cropped just a little.

I loved this shot (and I loved your Congo shot in the forums, too). I gave this a 9, definitely one of my favorites in the challenge! Congrats on the top 10 finish!

He almost looks like he is yawning...except for the eyes. They don't look sleepy at all. Good detail in the fur.

Yeeps! Went to Alaska this summer and fortunately did not see this view of a bear. They are formidable animals. Love his expression. Suggestion - crop tighter on the left. I don't think the background adds to this. A closer crop makes him even more "in your face."

Yikes! Zoo or not -- that is a great bear capture. At least I hope it was in a zoo. I'd hate to think of you being that close (even with a zoom) to a bear with THAT expression :)
