 Taken on my birthday! It was great to get a shot like this on my birthday :-D.
I took this handheld with my 17-40mm lens at 17mm, so you can imagine how close the Artic tern was, maybe two feet from the lens! I used Sigma EF-500 DG Super flash.

I did a lot of Photoshop work in this image, especially in the sky. If you look closely you can see faces and partials of faces in the skies, I put 20 of them there, I looked for something that reminded me of an eye, a nose or some other part of a face and added more to it. This is my most favourite single Arctic tern shot, it's very sharp. It was digitally enlarged to 15"x15" (39x39 cm) and I put it up on an exhibition in the artroom of Reykjavik city hall held in september 2004.

Man, this is a cool shot! The thumbnail just reached out and grabbed my attention even. That flash work and your processing is great. It looks kind of like a painting. Lots of drama in the image. Very nice work!

I'm in total awe. MAN!!!! Those colors and the detail and the light. I can't say anything but WOW. This may be the best photo I've seen at this site EVER! I'd vote it a 15!!!!!

The Arctic Tern migrates incredibly far. This is an incredible photo. Going in my favorites immediately. Thanks for sharing it with the DPC community.
