Excellent finish, Alan. Fascinating image of a beautiful location.

very good to look at. 6

Lovely. -6-

(Know that I only vote in even numbers.)

A six for you. Good use of the square frame, nice textures, nice cool tones. I stop at six because I feel it's too perfect -- but that simply means had I been in front of this scene, I'd have done something different. Overall, very nice.

From what I can find, this book is not a novel but a modern and well-researched accounts of the Indian mutiny of 1857. But aside from that issue of topicality, the image is perfectly processed photo of a beautiful location. The point of view reminds me of Europoean Renaissance paintings such as Masaccio's "Holy Trinity" of 1427 with its single-point perspective focused at the horizon line, as well as teh finely rendered archetectural detail. This image could rate a 10 easily for an archetectural topic but since it is supposed to be inspired by "classic novels", I have to downgrade it... all the way to a... 9.

Fantastic shapes, details and colours, perfect symmetry!

Love the detail and shading, as well as the continual nature implied in the design.
I'm not familiar with the book but after a quick look it seems the image is at least geographically in keeping, and the image does certainly seem to be mausoleum-esque.
I keep having the sensation that it is not level, caused mostly by the small bit in the bottom center, but upon righting myself to the image realize that it is this aspect, and not the whole image, that is causing my skew.
The pillars and archways do wonders to draw the eye to the shaded mural on the wall.
overall i'm giving this an 8 9 and would expect this to finish in the top 10.
this is also getting a favorite (and bumped score) after finishing all voting.

Beautiful pink, nice details and repeating patterns.

Magnificent detail

Comment Challenge: This is a very nice image, with good depth, nice processing, nice colors, and great architecture. However, to me, it comes across as an austere documentation of the building, with no personable human touch.

Wonderful details and great symmetry.

You are making me read this book! I like Darlymple writing very, very much and other than some of his articles here and there I was totally engrossed by his book "From the Holy Mountain".
Your picture is good and restrained in its processing and the rosy hues seem to give justice to the monument.
It's true that for this challenge I would have liked more of an interpretative shot, but you produced an honest picture
6 (for now)

I like the symmetry in the photo. Seems like it needs more detail. I know there is detail in the architecture, but I can't really see any of it.

Gave it a 5

7...I'm not familiar with the book, but the textures and design of this is quite appealing. I assume some sort of HDRy process was used here, which usually don't care for, but in this case it's nice.

Well exposed, cropped, nice balance and tones. Looks like a book illustration. Does it take me to the world of the last Mughal? Not sure about that, but might be my ignorance. Got to bump it 7
10/20/2013 06:25:59 PM
this might have some relevance to the book, but I am way too ignorant about the book and this culture to know. So, all this is for me is another competent but uninspired architecture photo. 4

Hardly a classic novel.

Image fits the book well though. And is quite well shot and processed.

Interesting architecture. Well framed and interesting. I'm not sure I would consider that a classic though, and as such it feels like a forced entry. Might have scored better in a different challenge. 5
10/18/2013 06:34:37 PM
perfect symmetry and good details. 6 from me.
10/17/2013 02:10:57 PM
That is a gorgeous building. Nice shot.
10/17/2013 08:35:57 AM
Know nothing about the book but the image is ok,not much of a focal point and a little uninteresting.5.
10/16/2013 07:44:59 PM
Beautiful structure, a good travel shot to promote Delhi. A little too symmetrical to tell a story, other than to marvel at the artistry of the stone. You nailed the symmetry marvelously and the carving is a joy to explore.5.

Such a beautiful structure, with great character! I like the use of tonemapping to expand the tonal range, but I wish there was some shadow and darker areas to give it some depth. A little burning would've helped immensely!
10/16/2013 12:17:06 PM
I love the delicacy of the rendering here, the frieze-like quality of the processing, which perfectly presents the elaborate intricacy of both materials and architecture. On a further technical note, you've squared it up nearly flawlessly; there's a bit of keystoning (slightly wider at top than at bottom, but the horizontals seem spot on, the POV is exactly on center, it's all as it should be.

Fits the book fine too. One might have expected a more decadent picture, but....

Regardless. It's an 8 for now, with possible bump depending on the rest of my voting.

Agra Fort, right? Love the photo!

Love the symmetry in this photograph. The colors are lovely. The detail is great. And the title is fitting.
Very well done. 8
