Nice picture. The sky is so blue. It would have been great if it was a little cloudy to give the sky some dept. Very nice work and good luck. 8

Yes, I really like this shot, they look like Profiles, and that sky is perfect-- 9

i think these are impressive subjects that would even be more impressive if shot at a different time of day.

Arizona or Utah? ok maybe nevada. i think AZ. anyway - the composition is decent, though i think the bigger of the two peaks is cramped at the top...maybe a little more of that beautiful blue sky would open it up some. Nice DOF and tonal range...perfect exposure.

P-ness.

The lower left part of the picture - I would've cropped it more tightly - close to the smaller totem. Generally - great composition :)

I can almost see the totem poles that could be formed out of these rock "shapes" (for lack of a better word). Contrast is good and I love the deep blue of the sky. It feels a bit oversharpened, however. 7

Nice scenic, perfect exposure. Post card of the hoodoos. I like the tuft of grass coming from the top of the tall one. Maybe a title "Mother and daughter?"

Nice shot of nature's sculpting. Like the vivid blue sky.

There is good height and grandeur in this lovely natural color image with good sky luminosity. bumping up two notches.

Beautiful colors! Very sharp.

This seems like a nice enough scene but doesn't really capture my attention in any special way. I think taking the shot in the middle of the day, even given the pretty blue sky, did bring out the interesting textures and details in the rock.

really interesting subject colors work well together, might have cloned out the stray shrubbery at the top, but might be best not to fool with Mother Nature.

i am giving this picture a 5 because it is a nicely composed picture but it lacks a punch, sorry

great rock, good colors. The blue is so clean and overwhelming that it causes the image to miss some atmosphere in my opinion.

Great shot. The tiny plant at the top of the spire really shows how great your focus is here. Great colors of the sky against the granite totems. 9

It apperas that they are almost talking to one another. Wonderful sky and great focus. They seem to be a little lost against the hill on the left. I wish there was another angle you could use. Good shot.

Good textures in the rocks, maybe a little oversharpened i.e. the edges look as if they have a little halo. The exposure is great, nice even blue in the sky. 7

This might be more powerful in BW, but as it stands there isn't much texture here...it falls a bit flat for me. I really love this area, though, love it love it, so I understand the attraction. So, nice shot, and thanks!

Nice browns against a very blue sky. 7

Nice scape. I might have tried playing with brightness and contrast to see if I could get more relief in the photo.

Excellent POV. The puzzle effect you created really makes this shot.

Nicely polarised sky... not much here to keep my interest though. Looks like it was composed with rule of thirds in mind... but other than that I'm not quite sure what you were wanting to achieve with this. Some VERY bad JPEG artifacting... the photo is only about 90k, you could have saved a 150k file. 4

You captured this picture on a beautiful day. What an amazingly blue sky. It contrasts the red rock very nicely.

Interesting rock formations. Would make a great duotone too, I bet.

A nice image, but it doesn't have a wow factor for me.

The composition and exposure are very nice. Still, the rocks don't hold a lot of interest to my eye, though I do like the diagonal presentation.

I love the vibrant blue color of the sky. If really does a good jub contrasting with the totems. I also like the bushes to the left of the shorter one. 7

Colors are nicely saturated and good detail captured in the rock. Love the creamy smoothness in the sky. I just find the subject matter to be somewhat lacking. Maybe if a person or animal was included somewhere in the shot I would find it more interesting. 6

Interesting formations, but I keep looking at the little scrubby bush on top of the taller one. I dunno, just needs something else -4

good colors, crisp subject, Does anyone else see a face in the top stone?

The little sprig of grass doesn't add to the shape or beauty of the rock formations, I would have cloned it out. I also think it could have been underexposed some to bring out more detail and get rid of the blast from the desert sun. 5

The lighting on this photo is wonderful. It looks just like a postcard to me. Great job.
I am giving you a ~10~

need to see more shadows (ie different angle to subject); also there are some "artifacts" from the compression showing in the sky around the totems; geologically speaking, there are some pretty heavy horizontal striations visible in the rock, which is usually not associated with granite (no deduct)

Nice bright colors and good contrast. Too bad there were no clouds to give the sky a bit more character.

Beautiful sky and incredible natural formations... the size difference between the totems effectively enforces a partial sense of depth even with a deep DOF. The saturation on the rocks and plant life could have used a bit of a boost to balance the jewel-like blue of the sky.

Interesting rock but lighting harsh. Would be better shot at sunset or sunrise.

10/01/2004 04:54:55 AM
The location of the sun makes the photo look a little flat and textureless, but the colors are nice and it's a good composition.

I think this should would be much better in B&W or sepia with a closer crop on the rocks to really show off the detail. As it is, the colours aren't really that interesting and nor is teh composition. A closer crop and B&W would really add some interest and 'feel' to the photo. 5

Nice, clear shot of interesting subjects. However, for me this is too much like a snapshot , in that there is nothing more brought to the shot other than presenting what is before you. I'd like to have seen some foreground interest such as some smaller formations that look like these or an animal - or perhaps just some well defined texture that gives me more of a feel for the terrain.

good rocks :) there is banding evident in the sky and compression artifacts around the contrast areas between the sky and rocks though, not enough to detract from the feeling of the pic :)

I love photos of Hoodoos. They do look like sandstone rather than granite, but I love the shot! Looks like Utah, but could be Colorado, I suppose.

Nice composition, and it probably would have looked even better at almost any other time of day.

I love these kind of rock formations. I grew up in Utah were they were abundant, now I live in VA where they are non existant. I took them for granted I'm afraid. The sky is brilliantly blue, must have been a fantastic day. Lovely shot.
