Another blue ribbon in a row? Are you kidding me? I'm sooooo happy!!
Truth to be said, I really didn't expect this pic to score so high. I actually wasn't sure if I would submit it at all, as the nun on the left is a little bit cut out of the frame, which I wasn't happy over. But then I thought that it's the moment that count's, specially with street photography, where there is no chance to get the same scene twice for another take. At the end I liked the atmosphere of the picture after I processed it in Silver Efex Pro and decided to submit it.
Ironically enough, the whole shooting took maybe couple of minutes, I was on my way home one late evening with my family, when I so this accordionist on the main square in my home city. Without having too much hope, I thought anyway that it might be an interesting take for this challenge and decided to take some shots, where this one happened to ribbon. So many times before, though, I didn't manage to score so high even when I spent much, much more time both shooting and processing various pictures (and which I liked a lot). Ah, such is life, full of surprises!
Even more ironical is the following: after I won ribbon in my previous challenge, the first one after 3,5 years of competing here, my wife asked me what my next DPC goal is. I answered that I don't have any particular goals, I just want to make some good shots and improve in my photography. When she insisted, then I said that now, once I had a blue ribbon in my hands, my next goal will have to be a score above 7. Never in my life would I think that that will come true in the very next challenge!
Thank you very much for your votes and very kind and honest comments!
P.S. About the photo itself: I tried to frame the accordionist against the jackpot lady in the background, and it looked kind of cool, but there wasn't a wow factor in it. At the same time there were passing many people and the background was very cluttered. Then just all of a sudden I saw 2 nuns entering the frame and I thought that this cannot be true; how often does this happen?! I started shooting like crazy, hoping to get the clean background and sharp picture with right focus. When I checked my cameras display, it directly seemed as my wishes were fullfilled! |

He wanted to play, only Nun were interested. ;-) Great capture. I'd give it a counterfeit PH Blue, but Don has a cease & desist order. :) |

Interesting assortment of characters among the musician, nuns, and poster woman. The nuns are surely praying, "oh, please, Lord, make him stop playing that godawful instrument." |
