The style I cannot do, no matter how hard I try and how many people try to help me, is "the set up shot". I tried all morning. Bought three different kinds of pears, spent some time picking the nice ones with interesting shapes. Found my giant reflector, set up a corner in the room that gets lovely morning light, found more props (stool, tablecloth-like thingie), set up the tripod, waited for the light to diffuse (ie go behind the cloud), etc. Shot with a couple different lenses, different apertures. Worked in the afternoon to process - trying to get nice rich tones, blurring the background a bit, adding vignettes, etc.
Sought a bit of advice. Discovered my attempt was rather "meh" (though I do like it, for a set up, for me) but it's what I have so I'm going with it. Went back and reprocessed, using tools I rarely use, like the magnetic lasso (kinda fun) to isolate the background. I still don't know how to do a set up shot properly, and I still don't process all that well. I'd like to say I'm getting closer, maybe.... or not. But it was fun to try!

Oh, and the photographer I was trying to emulate (TRYING, remember?) was Wendy. :-)
