 this took a lot more work than I though it would
first a I took a picture of the gameboy then edited it buy running an edge deteched filter and inverting then I used the path tool to select the lines to draw and use the "stroke path" to draw them onto a new layer and use a mask to setup the fade

then inverted and printed
I did the same for the game card
I glued the prints onto a black card an layed the gameboy and card on top, both had string attached so they could be pulled out of the way

then I part covered the gameboy/card with more black card

the shot was taken over 8 seconds use the timer to start the shot
for the first 5 sec's I pull the black cards off to give the fade in the photo part
and used the string to pull the gameboy/card of the background (card @ 4sec and the gameboy @ 5sec) to finish the fade of the line part of the photo
I had the help of my 8 and 10 year old sons to pull the strings while I worked the cards
so as you can guess we stuffed it up lots of times trying to get the timing right so this was the best we could get before the boys had to go to bed
for the editing I rotated/croped then I used a masked adjustment layer to burn the background black
used levels/saturation/contrast/etc to improve the color
used the dodge tool to try and get the lines lighter
a little bit of cloning to hide the join lines in the background and remove fluff spots etc.
usm, resize and saved for web
blured and more usm to remove the jaggies in the line (didn't work can't seem to get rid of them without the photo looking to flat)

Thats alot of work, I think this picture should have done alot better.

That is a very interesting tehnique and, seing that it is validated, I hope you comment on how you did it. I look forward to comming back to see. Overall, it doesn't realy scream complexity to me. Actually, the image would speak more to simplicity as you have taken a 3-D object and simplified it to a line drawing. On the other hand, the technique you used to do this is probably quite complex so I will grant you the challenge topic on that alone. Overall, the only thing that bothers me is the fact that the top right corner of the cartridge is obscured. It's nit-picky, but I am an information junkie, and when their is some information that I can't see, it somewhat bothers me. But aside from my peeves, the composition is very well balanced. Nicely done.

I am really curious how you accomplished this, so I can't wait to read your description after the contest. This is a great idea for a photograph and works well for this challenge.
