Challenge: Summertime Meals II (Advanced Editing VII)

 Wanted to do something different. This is in Hollywood cemetery in Richmond -- one of the most interesting cemeteries I've been in.

It has two presidents: James Monroe and John Tyler. Jefferson Davis is buried here, along with J.E.B Stuart, George Pickett, and 25 southern generals.

There is a monument to 18,000 confederate enlisted men buried there. (all amazing to a transplanted Northerner, but a good reminder of just how involved Virginia was in the War.)

There are a number of ghosts that haunt it. And this statue of the weeping woman is particularly compelling. The inscription is just as compelling, but I can't remember it. I'll have to ask my daughter -- she has it written down.

We go to the cemetery when we're in Richmond, because she likes to collect names for stories.

Thanks for all the comments! It was particularly hard to process this because of the lighting.

Btw, We did have a picnic in the cemetery after taking the shot. I'm not sure why the dead have the best views -- but this cemetery is no exception. It's high on a hill overlooking the James River.

Congrats on TT Wendy. What an interesting shot - and story. Cemeteries are so fascinating (and yes, usually well situated.)

According to this link, a woman named Alice Haxell was first married to William Worthington (grave in your photo). She remarried to William Haxell. All three are buried next to each other with Alice Haxell in the middle.

The green hues are just too good here to ignore, the dappled watermelon lighting, a macabre feast for the senses.

Look at that big bruise on her leg, hehe. Not sure why your daughter is eating a summer meal in a cemetry kind of spooky. The red pops.
