The textures are terrific, the shapes, and natural window water overlay. What I really like is the great feeling of burnt gold light that permeates. This would make a great oil painting, after all, it makes a great photo. 9 |

I think this misses the active ambiguity and/or incisiveness that in various proportions characterizes Cutout. It seems rather to descend more from the esthetic of Vermeer and as such is quite beautifully rendered. The earthy color pallet and soft light match the exceptionally effective omposition that captures and freezes a subtle motion and and conveys the exchange between the child and adult with only what is required to establish size, place and relationship of the elements. I hope this art school verbosity doesn't come across as too stuffy - I was moved by the image that seemed a nearly revelatory moment in the way it communicates so clearly. |
