Awe man. So I didn't know what was going on for Memorial Day, because I'm not normally home. But I turned into this large cemetery thinking I would find something like this shot. What I found was a service that included a 21 gun salute...that went off while I was walking up :(. That shot would have been fantastic had I gotten it. But instead, I settle for this. It's nice, but nothing amazing.
I did choose a center composition, which I feel is a bit different and more unique. It gives power to the focused stone, more power than an off center shot. And I also dodged it to make sure it was nice and bright. That combined with the natural shadow gives the feeling of this being the highlighted stone by the sun (even though it was cloudy). The added border seems to give a sense of class. Black bars was fine, but the thin white part really offsets nicely.
I am happy with this shot, but only expect a middle of the pack finish.

Boy oh boy, have I been guessing wrong lately! This, a shot that I didn't think would do super well, is sitting at a 6.47 with less than 8 hours to go in the challenge. I must have really struck a chord with voters...although just one comment. :)
I'm excited to see how this finishes. |

Congratulations on the ribbon, Mike. Lovely emotive shot - the composition and light work really well. So does the border. |

You did a great job. I haven't seen to many double sided borders. I must say it worked exceptionally well. |

Mike, this is a beautifully executed image. What really works for me here *is* the simplicity. It has a somberness to it that is very appropriate. Way to represent the Badger State! |
