This shot is from Seaside Heights, New Jersey. The roller coaster fell off the pier as a result of Huricane Sandy. It's pretty errie actually.
A guy put the flag on top and ended up getting arrested for doing it. you would have to think the thing is pretty dangerous so I could see why.

The photo looks so much better at larger res here
somtimes I hate that 800 rule

Thanks for the story that goes with this. Reminds me of the Jazzland/Six Flags that was struggling before Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005. Six Flags shut down in preparation of the coming storm and never reopened. It's been a few years since I have passed through that area but I think the rides still sit there today unused and overgrown.

Thanks again everyone! I didn't think I would make top 5. There are so many great shots in this challenge! My youngest son and I left our house at 2:30 AM to make it for sunrise....we had a great day and this just makes it better ;-)

As many, I saw the place on the news, but your shot really makes it impressive, especially in the larger resolution version. The long exposure was a perfect choice here. Congratulations on the top 5!

I absolutely LOVE this roller coaster - it is so PERFECTLY SURREAL. How does it fall off a boardwalk during a hurricane and end up right side up in the ocean looking so perfectly normal? GREAT shot!!
