 I have long been admiring Uncle Ansel Adams' work and have been wanting to try and emulate his work for a while. Each month I look up at the full moon that has just risen and think that I should have been out there shooting that!

Well when the grain challenge was announced I thought what shot would possibly work with grain... grain is typically old fashioned so either a portrait depicting some old person / period in history or a landscape shot and try and get it to look like film grain. Not sure I nailed the film grain but I am happy with my shot. Ansel's shot has a much smoother tonal gradient - probably due to the conditions he was shooting in which were clearer than my polluted city scape.

Taken from this spot and used The Photographers Ephemeris I could plan when and where the moon would rise.

Blend of 3 shots using gradients and "blend if" (seemed to work better than luminosity masks for some reason). Resize and sharpen. Finally a B&W layer from SEP2 and another layer with the same setting bet with grain. Tweaked grain layer opacity and masked out the grain over the moon.

Nicely done. Was wondering who's this is when I saw it. ;)
I had a similar idea and a day earlier I was out shooting the full moon but wanted the Township with lot's of smog. The right angle escaped me and in general not safe. Like the layers generated here but as is our SA urban skylines - in general boring compared to what you find abroad.
