Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Swash...
I think this is a very well composed image and it works nicely with your choice of song titles :) I actually like the centered composition of this particular shot. It seems to work very well and I can't see a better way to compose it myself.
I think this particular shot may have some room for improvement. The grain level is fairly high... possibly from a high ISO setting. I'm not sure what your exposure settings were since they are not posted with the image. If this is a LIVE bird, which it very well could be, getting a shot like this must have been very difficult, so setting manual exposures would not have been very easy at all. The overall image quality could be a lot sharper with a lot more saturation however. Digital Zoom also can create artifacting like this. I'm not sure what the source is here, but since the bird appears to be in the shade, it could be a combination of both digital zoom and ISO settings that your camera provided automatically.
Keep up the good work! I hope you decide to stick around with us :)

What everyone is taking for graininess, noise, pixelation, or artifacts is obviously the texture of the feathers. They are not used to seeing a photo this close up, and without flash, of a georgeous eagle. This is absolutely the best photo of an eagle ever, (I collect eagles). This is an awesome job. Even more so when you consider the limitations on finishing a photo on this site, virtually no adjustments. Now that the challenge is over they'll look closer and realize the quality of this photo. It's should have been #1, and is in my book.

Swash, I'm not seeing the artifacts, or noise that others are seeing. I have had a lot of difficulty with that too. People frequently tell me they see a lot of noise in my pics and they are clear as a bell on my monitor. So frustrating. I've also been criticized for borders. Sighhhhhh....what can we do? Can't please all the peeps all the time.
I like the exposure here. The lighting is just perfect to bring out the texture in the white feathers. The crop works very well. The pose couldn't be better, and you really captured the moment.
This would be very nice hung on a wall. Good job!

The yellow frame recalls National Geographic Covers, which works nicely w/ the subject. |

This is absolutely the most georgeous eagle and greatest photo that I have ever seen. This photo is deserving of honor and should be #1. The neck feathers are so awesome, you can almost feel the texture. The eye and the beak are.......It's like looking at the live bird in person. Wonderful photo and congratulations. It can hang on my wall any day. I'd love to give it a score of 100, but here's a 10 since that's all I'm allowed. PTL |

Wow what striking contrast with the white of the eagle and the dark background. I marked it down a bit due to the distortion or noise in the white towards the left.6.
Take my comments for what they are worth for I am just a novice with a new camera. Dodo |

Remarkable photograph! Where was it taken, and how did you keep background solid black? JEM |

Too grainy. I don't care for the yellow border. Honestly, I don't really like borders at all. But I don't mark down pix for that. The perspective is nice in this picture. The exposure is a little dark, but the graininess of it is the biggest turn off to me. But by no means is this a bad picture. I'll shut up now 6- Inspzil |

This is a very impressive shot, but why so dark? My eyes want to see the whites just a bit whiter. The background is great, nothing distracting there. The angle and framing/cropping is great. I really like the \'pose\'. The border is a little distracting from the eagle though cause it\'s so bright, and the photo is kind of dark. Still a very nice shot. Good luck in the challenge. |

The border really kills this for me. I'd be interested to know how you took such a shot? Besides the border, my other other criticism is that I can see the digital artifacts. Otherwise, I like the crop, the subject, the lighting is decent. Good job. |
